MMA Takedown Drill – Better Level Changes For MMA

Here’s a great MMA drill to help you check that you’re not over committing on your level changes and double leg shots. Start with some striking either on pads or on a partner and then practise level changing but before you fully commit to the double leg try bailing out as if something has gone wrong with your shot – visualise bad timing, opponent seeing it and defending, opponent launching a counter attack etc. If you can’t bail out cleanly and tidily at this point then you’ve probably over committed to the takedown too soon.

Perform three level changes per set, for the first two bail out and return to striking and for the third one commit and follow through on the double and complete the set up.
